#AlexisKnoxStyling of an Alternative Christmas!

It’s (almost) Christmaaaasss and that means lots of mince pies, festive cheer and of course, Christmas parties! There’s always this idea of “sparkle” at Christmas, and don’t get me wrong, I love me a bit of sparkle more than anyone, but there’s a fine line between looking festive and looking like a bauble on the tree. Here are a few of my alternative Christmas looks to try out this party season…

VELVET

“She wore bluuuee velvet” does anyone remember that song? Velvet is an absolute classic when it comes to this time of year, and always makes for a luxurious showstopper. You can wear it in so many different ways! Go Hollywood glamour with some vintage waves and a red lip, or get your 90s grunge on with some crushed velvet, a dark lip and super high platforms.

TARTAN

I LOVE tartan! It’s always such a great trend and looks amazing! There are some really cute pieces out there; from preppy dresses to punk-inspired cigarette trousers and matching twin sets (Cher Horowitz anyone?!) By day, you can mix tartan with a cute fluffy jumper and by night, go all out with some statement accessories and killer heels. PS: Don’t be afraid to pattern clash!!

EMBELLISHMENT

1920strend

Still want a little sparkle but not too keen on sequins? Look for beading and embellishment instead! With the recent release of Baz Lhurman’s “The Great Gatsby” (heeeyyy Leo!) the 1920’s burst onto the fashion scene. There are some pretty incredible Art Deco pieces available and the end result is perfect for parties. Note: Repeat after me “1920’s inspired” – inject elements of this era into your look, but don’t take it to literal. This trend can look a bit “costumey” if overdone.
