#AlexisLoves Obscure Couture
Hey babez!!! It’s the first of my Scottish Designer Profiles and these ladies have serious style! Nominated for various awards and known for their fun, out-there designs, their motto is “Make your other clothes jealous!” I had a quick chat with Lyndsay Pagan and Jenn Celine Coyle -the brains and beauty behind Obscure Couture.
Describe the OC image? What do you stand for?
The Obscure Couture image is constantly evolving and changes every season, but our philosophy stays the same; have fun and feel great! We don’t follow trend books, we follow our instincts. We provide an alternative to the mainstream clothing available in the same high street shops regardless of which city you live in. The Obscure Couture girl is of course obscure, as well as confident, unique, bold, sexy and strong. Here at the House of Obscurity we stand for standing out, proud from the crowd. OC girls like to dress-up, have fun with their image and feed their many alter-egos. One day you might feel like dressing like a cute pastel princess, the next, you might want to be a powerful, sexy, domanatrix version of yourself.
How do you feel about the growing popularity of fashion in Scotland?
Christopher Kane winning ‘Womenswear Designer of the Year’ at the British Fashion Awards just recently must be an inspiration to all Scottish designers! It just shows how much you can achieve through talent and hard work regardless of where you are from. There are so many designers and labels still based Scotland which are all bringing something new and exciting to the UK fashion scene and we absolutely love it! There is a great sense of camaraderie in the Scottish fashion scene and we all try our best to help each other out whenever we can.
Who are your style icons?
Ooohhh we love Yo-Landi Vi$$er from Die Antwoord, Miley Cyrus for her fuck-you attitude, Ke$ha , Lordes, Tank Girl is a lifelong Icon for us and Gwen Stefani always looks amazing and we love her style.
How would you describe your personal style?
Our personal style is different each day, but we both have our own basic style which we adapt. Lyndsay is a bit more of a grungy rock chick and Jenn is more girlie and sexy. We love styling our looks up and both have an absolute weakness for crazy-ass high-heels! Jenn likes to style up her look with peep-hole heels with neon socks and always tonnes of sparkly jewels around her neck. Lyndsay loves a studded biker jacket and statement knuckle-dusters.
What’s your favorite piece from anything you’ve ever made?
We both love our Kobe leather playsuit which has massive over-sized studs covering it. We both love our new AW13 ‘Serpentine’ bondage gown which is a full nude leather fishtail gown with patent leather buckles encasing the whole body and even some which go round the arms as well. We love creating silhouettes with impact and always strive to make something new and exciting for our customers.
What’s next? Could you tell me a little about the S/S collection?
The SS14 collection is based on American culture with a trailer-trash inspired aesthetic. Lots of embroidered, bleached, acid washed denim, white and gold leather, snakeskin and leopard print. We are really excited to release this collection. We think it will be very wearable but with a sexy ‘who gives a shit’ edge. We are also launching our brand new Menswear capsule collection which is based around the same theme, so it will be very interesting to see how all the men react!
I already love the sound of this! What amazing girls – I love their ethos and attitude! Stay tuned for my next Scottish Designer profile!
